- This old Garden Rose is a very early, ancient hybrid whose parentage has been lost. Commonly known as The Last Rose of Summer, Old Bush or Old Blush, it is one of the best-loved and easiest to grow Old Southern Garden Roses. Prized for its continuous, abundant flowers, resilence and low maintenance, it has graced the grounds of castles and mansions along with the yards of homesteads, and simple cabins across the Southern US and Europe for centuries.
- Care: When mature, plant in a full-sun location with fertile, well-draining soil. Water deeply, allowing the soil to dry between waterings to prevent over-saturation. Fertilize with a slow-release formula at planting, then each Spring and early Fall. Prune to shape after blooms fade. Monitor for issues, but regular preventative spraying is not needed.
- Indoor Growing: Roses are not well-suited for long-term indoor growth. Keep your starter plant in a very bright, sunny indoor location until the weather is suitable for transplanting outdoors.
- Climate: Old Blush (Bush) Rose is recommended for USDA Growing Zones 6,7,8,9,10. Plant early in the growing season in Zones 6 and 7A, and mulch roots heavily well ahead of the first freeze.
